Xbox to Xbox FTP-transfer

  • hi all.

    i've a really weird problem using the ftp client feature.

    i've recently modded a friend's xbox (all of my friends want an xbox when they see xbmc in action :thumbsup:, thanks for that great work guys! :bowdown:). now i want to transfer all of my mp3's and movies to it. i thought the ftp client would be the perfect choice to do the job, connecting both consoles with a rj45 crosslink cable. but i found that there is a problem with filenames or foldernames containing a dot, for example "kill bill vol. 1.avi"

    if i try to enter a remote folder with a dot in the foldername, the file manager goes back to the ftp root and shows the drives on the remote console. and if i try to copy that folder, the ftp client creates a c/c/c/c/c/c/c/c/... infinite structure on the local console.

    i have this problem with a 7/17/2005 cvs compile, installed from scratch. i'd like to know if it happens to any one else.

    please set xbmc.xml to debug and then post the log..

    let's see what going wrong there..

  • use avalaunch instead for xbox to xbox transfers.

    zi had the same experience with xbmc to backup whole dirs and lots of files to another xbox


  • i have this same problem with 17oct05 version. additionally, before even trying to transfer the folder, if you try to browse it remotely, it contains the folders c, d, e, f and each of those also contains the same thing. if you look at the folder on the local xbox, it's perfectly normal. examples include the folder f:\apps\dvdx_v2.0 and a skin with v1.0 in the name, they both contains the period just like you described. they won't transfer with xbmc, or even view correctly from a remotely connected xbox. however, it works fine if both xbox's run avalaunch, so i believe it's an xbmc bug.

  • i submitted this to sourceforge, hopefully did it right (never reported a bug before), so maybe this will help get it fixed in xbmc, i one day hope to be able to delete avalaunch (and dvdx2) completely ;)
