Hello, I'm new here. Just installed firewall, it worked for a few hours. I login in later and lost all my icons and have no START button. I restarted my computer everything ok. Again later on in the day I login and no icons or START button. Can someone help me.I'm having a similar (but slight variation) of this issue. Instead, my PC TOTALLY COLD REBOOTS (I did send a note to Outpost Tech Support with mini-dump). I checked AVAST! setting (it is NORMAL). Problem seems to occur most frequently when using IE7 (release version).
My system:
Dell XPS 2.8GHz, 2GB RAM
HDD: 750GB
Avast! (latest vers)
Outpost (latest registered vers 4.0.964.6926 (582)
Anyone else getting this exciting issue? :(Hi Tailgator I beleieve this is a known issue, read thread called "Outpost causing computer to freeze" Outpost 3.51 does not have this problem and works for me.I had so much trouble with Outpost and other software that I uninstalled it replacing it with another product and a different AntiVirus (AVG) program. Runs smooth as silk. Now I wish I hadn't paid the $$ to registered Outpost but as they say, 'buyer beware'. The new Firewall (Kerio) has very similar features to Outpost. Maybe down the line, I'll try Outpost again when their product is more mature.Well, here I am once again :( I uninstalled Outpost and the AntiVirus (Avast!) and all was fine. Installed AVG AntiVirus (registered) and worked smooth as silk. Installed Outpost v4.x and after the Win/XP logon, the PC COLD REBOOTS ASAP. So there's something that Outpost doesn't like (?). Any assist here will be appreciated. I'd rather not abandon Outpost, but I'm having too many issues to use it right now . I did get a post in the error log and a mini-dump if that would help figure this out.Welcome to the forums Tailgator,
If you are using Avast! then check the Known Issues section of Outpost 4.0 - What to Expect (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18611).
Otherwise, there is likely a conflict with other security software on your machine - you can try disabling them one by one to find the exact cause but it would probably be easier just to use Outpost 3.51 until an update to 4.0 is released to address reported conflicts.Well, here I am once again :( I uninstalled Outpost and the AntiVirus (Avast!) and all was fine. Have you tried the latest version 4.0.971.7030 (584)? Also, have you tried including Avast running processes in Outpost's Exclusion list, allowing everything? I don't use Avast but just a thought. Other than that, I can only suggest reporting this to Agnitum here: 1Actually, let me make a small correction to my earlier post - I am using BLACK ICE by ISS instead of Kerio. I don't know why I wandered away from such a stable product as Black Ice...but I guess I like to try new things out to see if they are superior, etc. So far, nothing is as solid as Black Ice on my five systems.I have just run latest version of OP 4 for 2 days, and every couple of hours my PC reboots. It goes off like somebody pulled the plug, and re-boots even though it is configured NOT to re-boot after a crash. Then a screen pops up telling me Outpost had a problem and wants to send a dump report to Agnitum.
This problem existed with the Release Candidate, and was reported, and I would have thought it would have been fixed for the actual public release
Bearing in mind my pc is connected up to 20 hours a day, an average of 10 crashes per day, often during important work is unacceptable.
Experiment over, and am now happily back to not using a software firewall... Please Agnitum, fix this problem?????
