Central heating problem, Please help?

  • Our central heating is working but is making a horrible banging noise as if our boiler is ready to blow up! Water is coming out of the overflow, the water seemed to be steaming, but it was a very foggy day so I'm not sure.

    Please advise?

  • you need a new expansion tank. check the water level and call a boiler repairman

  • The system is over-pressurized. If it is a hot water boiler, the expansion tank is probably flooded or the make-up water valve is over-feeding. Turn the valve off to the expansion tank and drain it all the way. Then turn the valve back on to the tank. Watch the gauge on the boiler. Most relief valves on residential boilers are set for 30 PSI. The operating control may be turned up too high - should be set for 180 degrees F maximum. Or it could be defective.
If it is a steam boiler, you may have a flooded boiler or a defective operation control.
You probably should call a pro.
