Atheists considering you don't believe in God, Would you like there truly not to be a God?

  • If you are wrong and there being a God. Wouldn't he know why he has done things in his way. But to the manner, would you rather want him not to exist?


  • Since the evidence says that there is no god, no Wotan, no B'aal, and no Zeus, what I might or might not want in regards any of them doesn't matter one bit.

    Since the actions of the deity figure in the XTian bible are those of a malign evil thug, it is a Very Good Thing that that evil being doesn't exist. His biblical record makes Hitler look like a girl guide in comparison.

    I tend to prefer that grossly evil and stupid beings of any sort not exist.


  • Depends on what kind of god. If you mean a murderous tyrant like the Bible portrays, I'm very happy there isn't one.

  • i personally am not sure whether i believe in a god or goddess or anything at all to tell you the truth. but i feel that if there is a god or higher power, then he or she, or it, made me to have a mind of my own and to push the boundaries of the brain i was given or born with or however it happened. i personally feel that if there is a god and it is the god of the christian bible then he is sitting in heaven shaking his head because as a person who has spent her whole life in the part of the country labeled "the bible belt" i've seen far to much hatred from people who call themselves christian to believe for a moment that this is what was planned. i think humans make mistakes and that the bible was written by sexist men and then warped by a power hungry church an that it wasn't meant to be taken literally. if there is a higher power then i feel they will accept me as i am. not as the majority of the christians i have come in contact with have treated me.


  • No, I would not like a diety who could convict me of thought crimes even while I was asleep to be real. I would not like a god who would send people to eternal torture for being unable to believe in something for which there is no proof to be real. I would not like a god who has the power to intervene and help human suffering but chooses not to to be real.

  • Just try reading a small sample of Christian postings on here!!!

    Intolerant, egotistical, hate filled and bigoted!! Eschewing education, science, evolution works of fiction and much, much more. Christians are the only religion opposing human rights and persecuting gays, pro choice and so much more - but far worse whilst they demand freedom of religion they deny it to all non Christians and persecute them!!!

    Such terrible human emotion that there simply cannot be a loving god and who would want to have anything to do with a god if the followers conduct is anything to go by?!!


  • Actually, I find the Christian conception of God to be quite horrifying. I agree with Christopher Hitchens who likened the idea to a celestial North Korea.

    If there was a God, however, I would definitely want to know about it.


  • It's an interesting question. The answer is that atheists don't want God to exist because then they would have to answer to Him over how they live their lives.

    I find that if I say "my Creator" rather than "God", then I tend to get rid of people who answer like the first one: "Depends on what kind of god"

    Anyway.. since I don't believe any gods exist, your question is kind of moot. How can I want there to truly not be a god when I don't think one exists in the first place? Wait.. your question doesn't even make sense.

  • hhmm, its a tough one, id have to know what a god would bring to our lives, to existence,
    what is the benefits, if he just sits there doing nothing, then there are no benefits for anyone or for life
    if he truly was a good god, which seems impossible, then yes id like there to be a god
    if he was a realistic god, a meglaomaniac, egomaniac, power hunger control freak, then no, i think we are better of without an all powerful dictator


  • Well, hypothetically, I would like to also know why Santa didn't get me the pony I wanted when I was 7 too. But since Santa is also a fictional being, I don't wonder too much about his motivations either.


  • Yep. If there is a god and he is what MAN describe him as, I really don't like his PERSONALITY. I don't hang out with people I don't like, so it's best I not believe in him. I don't want to go through my life at war with the so called maker. A loving god would understand this from me because he is all powerful and doesn't have a personality or ego. If a god does exist I am assuming the latter is the kind that would exist so I have nothing to worry about. But I still doubt very much that there is a god at all. In fact I am quite certain there isn't.
